Get to Know the 2017 Ford SuperDuty Trucks in Arlington, Texas

Capability isn't about brute strength. It's about hauling and towing smarter. The fully redesigned 2017 Ford SuperDuty models, like the Ford F-250 and Ford F-350, make tough moves a breeze thanks to lightweight body materials, clever features, and more potent power. These heavy-duty pickup trucks come in a wide array of cab style, trim, features, equipment, bed length, and powertrain configurations, and yet no matter how you build it, the Ford SuperDuty series is always tough enough to get the job done.

What's New for the 2017 Ford SuperDuty?

The entire SuperDuty lineup is fully redesigned for the 2017 model year. It takes a page from the F-150's book and integrates high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy into its body panels for significant weight savings. This means the SuperDuty can focus its efforts where they count, like incorporating 95 percent high-strength steel into its fully boxed frame. These new materials make the F-250 and F-350 stronger and more rigid than ever before, and yet they both shed roughly 350 pounds. Now more power can be used for hauling and towing your cargo rather than to simply move the truck's own weight.

Other upgrades include brawnier engines, more spacious cabins, and a wider selection of high-tech features. The latter includes everything from LED exterior lighting to blind-spot monitoring that covers the length of the trailer.

Here are a few things to think about when weighing your work truck options:

  • Performance

It's named the SuperDuty for a reason. It's motivated by either a 6.2-liter gasoline V8, worth 385 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, or a 6.7-liter Power Stroke® turbocharged diesel V8 with best-in-class torque -- 925 pound-feet of it, alongside a whopping 440 horsepower. These numbers add up to significant towing and hauling capability, especially when paired with four-wheel drive.

  • Exterior

If you're familiar with the SuperDuty series, you'll notice that the 2017 redesign touches on many of its exterior elements. This includes upgraded grille, headlight, mirror, front fender, and door designs. As we mentioned previously, the exterior of the SuperDuty is now clad in all-new aluminum materials as well as high-strength steel. Thoughtful new features include available power running boards, LED lighting, and a power-locking, remote-controlled tailgate.

  • Interior

While all SuperDuty models are spacious, each trim offers its own unique styling elements and technologies. You can have you F-250 or F-350 as a no-nonsense workhorse or a plush lux truck, complete with leather upholstery and power-operated everything. The Western-themed King Ranch is a fan favorite, as is the midrange Lariat, which unlocks a wealth of the SuperDuty's creature comforts.

  • Features and Safety

Cameras, cameras, cameras. Visibility is seriously improved with the 2017 model year, as it introduces seven cameras to help with everything from connecting a trailer to peeking into blind alleys. It's called the ultimate Trailer Tow Camera System, and it gives drivers a 360-degree view around the truck, and it can also work alongside a pair of rearview cameras. Adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, cross-traffic alert, and collision mitigation are available for additional peace of mind.

Adaptive steering is also a favorite feature, as it blends the variable steering ratio of electric with the fluidic motion of hydraulic. Ford's fresh SYNC® 3 touchscreen infotainment system keeps you connected while minimizing distraction thanks to voice controls, intuitive organization, and a responsive interface.

What's the Difference between the 2017 Ford F-250 and the 2017 Ford F-350?

The F-250 and F-350 offer the same trims, same powertrains, and pretty much the same features -- but there are a few major differences. Whether you choose the F-250 or F-350 depends on what you're going to do with it.

The F-250 is a 3/4-ton truck, while the F-350 is a full ton. This means the F-350 can haul and tow a bit more than the F-250. With a conventional trailer, both models have relatively the same hauling capability. However, with a gooseneck trailer, the F-350 can haul up to 32,500 pounds while the F-250 maxes out at 18,600 pounds.

As for payload, the F-350 configured with a regular cab, dual rear wheels, and rear-wheel drive can shoulder up to 7,630 pounds, while the F-250 with a crew cab and four-wheel drive tops out at 3,400 pounds. All in all, if you have commercial-level hauling and towing needs, the F-350 could be right for you. If you're just looking for more capability than a light-duty truck offers, the F-250 is the way to go.
